Sister M. Katherine Menard, RSM

MENARD, Sister M. Katherine (formerly Sister Mary Edward Francis), 76, a Sister of Mercy, died on Sunday, May 29, 2016.  Born in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Katherine (Connors) Menard.  She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Judith and David Costa, and a niece and nephew.

Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy in September of 1958 and professed final vows in 1966.  Sister is a graduate of Salve Regina University and received a Master’s degree from Rhode Island College.

Sister Katherine taught elementary grades in several parish schools in Rhode Island.  She spent several years at her alma mater, St. Mary Academy-Bay View, where she taught at both the elementary and secondary level – a ministry that she especially enjoyed.  Her most recent ministry was at the Family Outreach Center in Providence where she taught G.E.D. classes.

During the past several months, due to declining health, Sister lived at Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland where she was cared for and visited by staff and her Mercy Community.

Visitation will be held at St. John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:30 am.  A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.  Collation at St. John Vianney Parish Hall.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sisters memory to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864.  Information and condolences, please visit: www.galloglyfuneralhome.com
