Sister M. Carmen Demeule, RSM

Demeule, Sister Mary Carmen, 83, a Sister of Mercy, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre. Born in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of the late Henri and Mabel (Larouche) Demeule. Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1951 and professed perpetual vows on August 16, 1957.

Sister Carmen began her teaching career at St. Mary Academy, Bay View and she continued to minister in parish schools throughout the Diocese of Providence until 1976, when she became principal of Holy Ghost School and later at St. Philip School in Greenville. In addition to the usual elementary curriculum, Sister shared her musical abilities teaching guitar and dance to her students.

In 1993, Sister Mary Carmen became the co-director at St. Mary Convent, Bay View and later worked in the medical records department at Mount St. Rita.

Visitation will be held at Mount St. Rita Health Centre on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 am with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:20 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road , Cumberland at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
