Oh, dear Joeline!
I only learned of your passing, today, as I set out (late, naturally) to send out my "post-Christmas" greetings to friends. I wish I had known or I would have definitely come back to St. Mary of the Bay - where I met you - for your funeral. You are surely reaping all the rewards that you were promised, after years of loving and faithful service to God's people. I was only a seventeen year old girl, but you were always so open to my visits and our chats together, and you encouraged me (and so many others) in our faith journeys. I will remember you in a special way this year, on February 15th!. RIP

My condolences to her Family, Friends, and her Sisters in the Sisters of Mercy Community. My wife, Virginia, kept in contact with Sister Joeline over many, many years. Sister Joeline was very helpful to me when I talked to her after Ginny passed away last June. May they both rest in peace with God.

Sister Jolene went to school with my mother-in-law - Rosemarie (Costa) Simmons and was always apart of her life. Even though she is suffering from Dementia, she still smiles when she hears Sister Jolene's name. My husband and I have nothing but fond memories of her and that beautiful smile. We all were blessed to know her. Prayers and Love for her family at this time of mourning. Jessie & Fred Simmons III and Family

So very sorry to hear about the loss of Sr. Joeline. She was a close friend of my mother’s (Corina Matarese) for so many years, who provided our family with much comfort during her illness and after her passing. Her claim to fame for me personally was to announce whenever we met that she was the 'matchmaker' who brought me and my husband together in the early 70s at a St. Mary of the Bay CCD function. I am grateful that all of my children had the pleasure of knowing such a remarkable and faithful woman. We will miss seeing her on the front porch of Benjamin Church, watching the 4th of July parade. But we know that she will be watching from above, in a place reserved especially for her. Sr. Joeline, may you rest in peace.
God's blessings be with you all during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy and prayers,
Pat and Rick Bruneau and family

What a beautifully written and well-deserved tribute to Sister Joeline. Indeed, Joeline loved people, whatever station, she exuded a deep and cheerful faith and optimism and was always very approachable. May she enjoy her risen life with the Lord whom she loved.

Dear Sr. Mary Edwin, Sisters of Mercy, and all Sr. Joeline's family and friends:
I join you in prayer as I remember our dear Sister Joeline. During the time I was Bishop of the Diocese, there were many ceremonies and occasions when we would be together. I was always inspired by her devotion and love for the Church and all God's people. In later years we were in contact, both at public events and in exchanging cards for good wishes to each other. It was always a great pleasure to hear from her. She certainly was supportive of me, and clergy, and leaders of our Church. She was genuine and wanting to do anything she could for the good of God's people. Everyone who knew her sensed that in her.
When I heard of Sister's passing, my first desire was to be able to go to join in her Funeral Mass. Unfortunately, I have a commitment on Tuesday that involves other people and I am not able to be free. I will be offering my Mass that day for her. I join all of you in praising God for her wonderful life. She certainly has merited the graces she will receive now from the good Lord. All of us who knew her will remember the inspirational effect she had on us. From her place with the Lord I'm sure she will remember us in our needs. Together may we continue to praise God. May our dear Sister Joeline rest in peace. Sincerely, Bp. Gelineau

Sr Joeline I met when she was caring for Fr Coffey's health and I was named administrator of the parish, From the beginning, she was excellent - in caring for Fr Coffey health and passing and introducing me to the parish- my first pastorate. She was so good- I built a new convent for her and Sr Edwin,(on this side of the street).
She was ready to help out in so many things- that she didn't have to.I had 3 asst pastors and summer seminarians and she was witness to them of pastoral vision and care for young and old. I never shared my pastoral ministry with anyone like
her- and I'm 50 yrs a priest this June.WE stayed in touch over the years and her passing seemed unexpected.I am handicapped due to back surgery last March and cannot live alone, drive alone yet-I am still under Dr's care and will not be able to be present at the funeral. She made me a better priest and I pray that will be credited to her as she approaches the gates of heaven. R.I.P.

We pray for Sister Mary Joeline who devoted her life to Christ and his Church. I had the privilege to meet Sister many years ago, introduced by her niece, my sister-in-law Eileen, Her name has been entered into our St. Patrick Parish book of petitions here in Virginia. May God's Grace and Love shine upon her soul.
