LAVALLEE, Roland H., “Cowboy”, 90, of Coventry, passed away Monday, July 3, 2017 at Brookdale Centre of New England Assisted Living.
He was the husband of the late Shirley J. (Caswell) Lavallee. Born in Moosup, CT, he was the son of the late Hector and Zorinne (Cote) Lavallee. He was a resident of Coventry for over forty years.
Mr. Lavallee served with the US Navy for twenty three years before retiring in 1967 as a Chief Petty Officer. Following his Navy service he was a ship fitter/instructor at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division in Quonset from 1976 until retiring in 1988. He served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars and during his 23 year naval career, he was present during the Bikini Atoll Atomic Bomb Testing, the Deep Freeze I in Antarctica and was a French interpreter/translator in Morocco.
He is survived by a son, Brian M. Lavallee and his wife Susan of West Warwick; a daughter-in-law, Celeste Lavallee of West Warwick; three grandchildren, Nicholas B. Lavallee and his wife Carrie-Ann, Alyssa Gellerman and her husband Jason and Matthew Lavallee; a great granddaughter, Emma Rose Lavallee and a brother, John Lavallee of Warwick. He was the father of the late Charles E. Lavallee and brother of the late Charles Lavallee.
His funeral will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 8:00 am from the HENAULT-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am in SS. John & Paul Church, South Main St., Coventry. Interment will follow with military honors in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Friday 4:00-7:00 pm.
