R. George Henault

April 22, 1936 ~ July 11, 2016 (age 80) 80 Years Old


HENAULT, R. George, 80, of West Warwick and Block Island, died on Monday, July 11, 2016 at his home.  He was the husband of Elizabeth Ann (Lesperance) Henault.  They had been married for 49 years.

Son of the late Raoul G. and Virginia M. (Richardson) Henault. George was born on April 22, 1936 in the funeral home of his father when it was located on Curson Street.

He was a graduate of West Warwick High School class of 1953, Nichols College and American Academy of Funeral Service, N.Y. class of 1955.

He had been a licensed embalmer and funeral director since August 1957.  He worked jointly with his father until 1980 when Raoul Sr. retired.  George continued the business, Raoul G. Henault & Son Funeral Home until his retirement in 2001.

Always civic minded, he had a lifelong interest in scouting and was a member of the Explorer Scouts Post 449 “last resort”.  He was a member of the IBBA, a volunteer firefighter in the 1950’s, he belonged to the West Warwick Jaycees, West Warwick Lions Club and was a lifelong member of Club Frontenac.  He was a longtime member and former board chairman, 1983-1987, of the Kent County YMCA, a Corporator and former Trustee of Centreville Bank.

Both he and his wife were avid sailors and longtime members of the East Greenwich Yacht Club.  They raced WAKE with the Twenty Hundred Club, and sailed with the Narragansett Bay Non-Such Association of which he was a former President.

He, with his family and friends, enjoyed time in their Block Island home.  George was a 13 year board member of the Block Island Health Services, both as board appointed and publicly elected and a former member of the Committee for Great Salt Pond.

He was a longtime member of the Jamestown Penguin Club and a past Excelsior.  He enjoyed RVing with the R.I. Winnies.  He served as member of the St. John the Baptist Holy Name Society, the St. Vincent DePaul Society and had been chairman of the St. Joseph’s Cemetery Committee since 2008.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, David G. Henault of Providence, two daughters, Giselle Foresman of Virginia and Monique Henson of Texas, a sister, Suzanne Iannotti of Charlestown, RI, four grandsons and three great granddaughters.  He was predeceased by a sister, Joan M. Henault and triplet brothers, David, Henri and John Henault.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 12:00 noon in SS. John and James Church, 20 Washington St., West Warwick followed by interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick.  Visiting hours Thursday from 4-7 pm in the Henault-Gallogly Funeral Home, 5 Eddy Street, West Warwick.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Block Island Health Services, PO Box 919, Block Island, RI 02807, or Hope Hospice & Palliative Care RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.  www.henault-gallogly.com
