William “Bill” H. Blade, Jr., 92, formerly of Warwick passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 peacefully at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.
He was the beloved husband of the late Claire (Silva) Blade. Born in Providence, son of the late William H. and Margaret (Taylor) Blade.
He started his career as a carpenter, and then worked with the Warwick School Department for many years until his retirement. He was a Korean War Army Veteran.
He liked tending to his home and yard. He was an avid runner for many years, and was an active member of the West Warwick Running Club.
He was a talented builder and the three houses, he “built to last” on Blade Street, in Warwick are a testament to his craftsmanship. He generously shared his carpentry skills with friends and family.
He was an enthusiastic traveler who traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe imparting the ”travel bug” to his family. He was passionate about local and United States history especially regarding the Civil War, and World War II.
But above all else, he was immensely proud of the family he created with his wife. He was the devoted father of Joan Blade Johnson and her husband Robert of Hampton, CT., Joyce Blade of Warwick and Julie Blade of Orono, MN. Bill was the loving grandfather of Taylor, Blair and Chandler Johnson, Ian and Sarah McQuesten, and Henry, Ella and Ava Larson. And he was the loving great-grandfather to Bryce and Blake Johnson, and Brody and Sawyer Johnson. A true gentleman, he will be missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church (where William was a lifelong communicant) at 854 Providence Street, West Warwick.
