Walter S. Oakes, Jr, 66, of Coventry, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 30, 2024 at home.
He was the beloved husband of the late Suzanne “Sue” Oakes, who passed away in 2005. Born in Warwick, a son of the late Walter S. Oakes, Sr. and Charlotte (Grover) Oakes. He was a resident of Coventry for most of his life.
Walter was a self-employed fisherman for many years. His enjoyments included woodworking, going out to dinner with family and friends, playing cards, especially poker and participated in several card leagues. In his later years he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by three sisters, Cindy L. Salvas, Gale Healy and her husband Robert and Eva T. Bickford and her husband Robert; a step-son, John McEnery; three grandchildren, Connor, Ryan and Lilly and an extended loving family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a funeral home service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
