V. Madeleine (Durand) Harrop

HARROP, V. MADELEINE (Durand), 100, passed away December 11, 2023.

Madeleine passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was a longtime communicant of St. James Church and Our Lady of Czestochowa. In addition to her employment as a legal secretary, she worked at Metropolitan Insurance Company, and volunteered for over 40 years at Kent Hospital. She was a member and avid golfer of the Valley Country Club, enjoyed gardening, reading murder mysteries on her Kindle, and playing games on her computer. Madeleine credited her longevity to the glass of wine she had every night.

She was the wife of the late Robert J. Harrop, Esq. and the late Dr. Edward Wheeler. Daughter of the late Thomas and Diana (Soucy) Durand, she was the sister of the late Camille Tobin, Alcide, Edith and Norman Durand.

Madeleine is survived by her two sons, R. Daniel Harrop and his wife, Marcia, and Peter J. Harrop; five grandchildren, Sean Harrop, Eileen Harrop Dufresne, Chad, Peter, and Brianna Harrop, and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several in-laws and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to express its most sincere and deep appreciation to her close friend, Diane Benoit, her thoughtful and caring neighbors, Debbie & Bill Heaton, and her caregivers, Melissa Leveillee from Bayada Home Health  Care and Ajie Forrest and Altagracia Lopez from Global Healthcare and Staffing Inc.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 18th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Czenstochowa, 445 Washington St., Coventry, RI.  Burial will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 S.
