Therese M. (Valerien) Ray, 95, of Coventry, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Riverview Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Coventry.
For 75 years she was the cherished wife of Manuel Ray. Therese described her marriage as “love at first sight,” after meeting her husband following his return from the U.S Navy in World War II. Therese was born in Coventry to the late Elphege and Lucia (Belisle) Valerien. She resided in West Warwick after marriage, returning to Coventry for the remainder of her time.
Therese was a teacher at the Trudeau Memorial Center for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1991. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, sewing, crocheting, knitting, baking, camping and traveling.
Besides her husband, she leaves her four children, Manuel J. Ray (Joan), Michael R. Ray, Suzanne M. Hobday (Keith) and Nancy J. Colaiacomo (late David); six grandchildren, Melissa Ray Doucette (Chris), Joseph Ray, Paul Hobday (Susan), Wayne Winchester (Sarah), Breanna Colaiacomo and Aaron Colaiacomo (Mariah); four great grandchildren, Nicholas Ray, Cecelia Ray, Ellie and Rowen Winchester and a sister, Doris Riel. She was the sister of the late Rose Patenaude, Leo Valerien and Cecile Ray.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 9:00 am from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 62 Pleasant St., West Warwick followed by interment at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
