Sylvia A. (Ventura) Andre, age 95, who departed this life peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Cra-Mar Meadows in Cranston, surrounded by her devoted family. A lifelong resident of West Warwick, Sylvia was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Born in West Warwick, she was the daughter of the late Manuel J. and Francelina (Correia) Ventura. Sylvia lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to her community. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio C. Andre, with whom she shared many years of marriage before his passing in 1989.
A devout Catholic, Sylvia was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony Church, where she was an active member and found great spiritual fulfillment. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she extended her compassion and dedication beyond the church walls. She served as former Vice President of the Portuguese Cultural Society, proudly celebrating her heritage and enriching the cultural fabric of her community.
Sylvia’s love for books and her passion for travel reflected her curious and adventurous spirit. Whether curled up with a novel or discovering new places, she embraced each experience with joy and gratitude.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her five children: John Andre and his wife Ann, Carolyn Dauplaise and her husband Roland, Patricia Zonfrillo, Alan Andre and his wife Denise, and Wendy Andre. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: David, Melissa, Jill, Adam, Cory, Tayla, and Evan, and her eight great-grandchildren: Lauren, Leah, Nathan, Julia, Anthony, Isabella, Liem, and Lylah. Sylvia is also survived by her dear sister, Mary R. Barreto and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings: Manuel Ventura, Joseph Ventura, John Ventura, and Chief Anthony Ventura of the West Warwick Police Department.
Sylvia’s funeral will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, One Sunset Avenue, West Warwick. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Burlingame Road, West Warwick. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m.
