Stephen J. Sousa

Stephen J. Sousa, 54, of Tanglewood Drive, West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 16, 2026, at Kent Hospital.

Born in Warwick, he was the beloved son of Maria Lurdes (Branco) Sousa of West Warwick and the late Jose Sousa. A lifelong resident of West Warwick, Stephen was a gentle and kind-hearted presence whose life was marked by the relationships he cherished and the simple joys he embraced each day.

Stephen attended Project Friends in Coventry, where he formed many lasting and meaningful friendships. He was a proud participant in the Special Olympics of Rhode Island, demonstrating both enthusiasm and determination. A faithful communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, his life reflected a quiet devotion and strong sense of community. Stephen found great enjoyment in watching World Wide Wrestling, cheering on the New York Yankees, and listening to music—pastimes that brought him comfort and happiness.

Above all, Stephen will be remembered for his warm spirit, his friendly nature, and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed by his loving mother, Maria Lurdes Sousa; his dear aunt; several cousins; and his many friends and caregivers at Project Friends and West Bay RI, all of whom were like extended family to him.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 8:30–9:30 AM in the Prata-Gallogly Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Church, Sunset Avenue, West Warwick. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick.
