MAILHOT, Roger L., 94, of Sparrow Circle, West Warwick, passed away Saturday morning, August 5, 2023 surrounded by his family at Kent Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of the late Viviane R. (Levesque) Mailhot, they had been married for 54 years upon her passing in 2007. Born in Lewiston, Maine, a son of the late Zephirin and Lucienne (Ouellet) Mailhot. He was a resident of West Warwick for many years.
Mr. Mailhot was an educator for thirty years in the Warwick School Department as a French teacher before retiring from Pilgrim High School in 1985. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Sherbrooke, Canada and a graduate of Assumption College, Worcester, MA; Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, MA and the University of Rhode Island.
A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy, the Naval and the Coast Guard Reserve and retired from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was a lector and Eucharistic Minister at SS. John and James Church, a Eucharistic Minister at Kent Hospital, a member of the Holy Name Society of SS. John and James Parish and member of the Reserve Officers Association.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, both here and in Maine, as well as watching the Red Sox. He was very proud of his French heritage and background… à la prochaine fois!
He is survived by a daughter, Denise M. Chevrette and her husband Ronald of Coventry; two grandchildren, Marc Chevrette and Nicole Chevrette and her fiancée, Shawn Goff and two sisters, Noella Gauthier and Jeannine McGraw both in Maine. He was the brother of the late Jeanne d’Arc Dozois and Gisele Gilbert.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in SS. John and James Church, Washington St., West Warwick. Interment with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick.
