Robert James Stafford

Robert James “Bob/Nino/Nono” Stafford (98), of West Warwick passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Bob was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather and a proud veteran.

Born on December 26, 1926, Bob grew up with a strong sense of duty and adventure that led him to serve his country during World War II as a U.S. Navy sailor on the LST-535. Upon his return, he had a successful career with the Department of Navy in CT, retiring in 2006.  

Bob shared 32 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Mindy Stafford, his constant companion and source of joy. He was previously married to the late Arlene Krauss Stafford.

He was the cherished father of the late Laurie Jane Stafford O’Banion, Michael O’Banion (Sheila), Marcy Cascone (John), and Stuart Licker (Alice). Grandfather to Kimberly, the late Mary Elizabeth, Daniel (Alison), and John Robert and great-grandfather to Wren, Oriya, Bailey, Peter, Casey, Elijah, Conor and Claire.  Bob also leaves behind his two brothers Peter and Thomas.

Bob was known for his quick wit, big personality and gift for making others laugh.

The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date.
