Obituary

Raymond J. Gallogly

On January 13, 2022 Raymond J. Gallogly, 89, passed away peacefully at Hope Health Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Maureen (O’Brien) Gallogly for 46 years. He is survived by his son, Raymond (Michaela) of East Providence and daughter Meg (Tim Riordan) of Arlington, VA and five grandchildren – Patrick, Ryan and Kiera Gallogly; and Jack and Liam Riordan, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Ray was a proud dad and papa who was devoted to his family.

Born November 23, 1932 in Providence, Ray was the youngest of nine children born to Lawrence and Rose E. (Mimnaugh) Gallogly. He was the brother of the late Mary A. Hackman, Rosella A. McLaughlin, Sister M. Rosellen Gallogly, RSM, Hon. Edward P. Gallogly, Chief Justice RI Family Court, Lawrence P., William J., Thomas F. and Vincent P. Gallogly. He was the brother-in-law of Ann Gallogly, of Warwick. He lived in Warwick for over 50 years.

Ray lived a full life filled with family, public service and sports. He grew up in South Providence surrounded by family and close friends. Ray loved to share stories of the good times on West Clifford Street and at Tyler school. He was a proud graduate of LaSalle Academy and Providence College. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After serving, Ray returned home and married the love of his life, Maureen.

Ray led Rhode Island’s Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) – supporting and mentoring young Rhode Islanders for 17 years.  Always active in politics, Ray served as the state representative for Warwick’s 32nd District for 8 years, volunteered for state and local campaigns and was a long-time member of the Rhode Island Democratic Committee. He worked in Rhode Island Superior Court for twenty years, retiring as State Jury Commissioner.  After his retirement, he served on the city of Warwick’s tax assessment board.

Ray was active in his community. He was a long-time parishioner of St. William Church in Warwick, where he served on the church council and finance committee and was a Eucharistic minister. He was also active in Warwick West Side Little League, serving as a baseball and softball coach as well as on the league’s board of directors. His coaching skills and keen sense of the game, any game, were unmatched.  Ray took up golf later in life and after retiring jumped on every opportunity to play. He treasured time spent on the course with friends and family.

An avid athletic supporter, there was nothing Ray enjoyed more than watching sports and rooting for his children, grandchildren and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He crisscrossed the state to watch them play and was a constant source of support and encouragement on the sidelines.

Ray will be deeply missed by those who loved him. He will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family, his sense of humor, his storytelling, and of course, the Irish twinkle in his eyes.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 8:30 am from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Cathedral of SS.
