Ralph A. Petrarca, 88, of Coventry, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, June 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Prata) Petrarca, married for sixty four years and spent much of their retirement traveling the world, exploring over 27 countries, and all 7 continents. Born in Warwick RI, on June 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mary (Padula) Petrarca. He resided in the Potowomut section of Warwick before moving to Coventry many years ago.
Mr. Petrarca was a quiet and gentle soul, he taught 6th grade for the West Warwick School Department at Horgan Elementary School for over 25 years. He held a Master of Education degree from Rhode Island College.
In addition to his world travel, Mr. Petrarca and his wife loved hiking, together they completed “The New Hampshire 4,000 footers” among many other New England peaks. He was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed commercial shell fishing, as well as recreational fresh and saltwater fin fishing.
Besides his wife, he leaves his two children Ralph A. Petrarca of New York City and Warwick RI, his wife Sandra Carl, of Worcester, MA, and Christina Stabile her partner Matthew Carlos of Naples FL, and Coventry RI. He also leaves his two grandchildren, Stephen and Rachel Stabile. He was predeceased by his two older sisters, Jenny Senerchia and Lucy Petrarca.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
