Owen Francis Terrell, 32, of Block Island, passed away in a vehicle accident on November 1, 2021. Owen was born on October 18, 1989 in Washington, D.C. to Marilyn (Murphy) and Scot Terrell, the fourth of five children. Owen grew up in Virginia, where he attained many accolades as a lacrosse player, and graduated from the University of Virginia. After living in New York City and Denmark, Owen spent the last five years on Block Island, a place he loved. He is survived by his parents, who live in Annandale, Virginia; his grandmother Charlyne Terrell of New Oxford, Pennsylvania; his siblings Emma Leitch (and Trevor) of Bermuda, Lucy Terrell-Lewis (and C.T.) of Long Beach, California, Julia Purvis (and Matthew) of Las Vegas, and James Terrell of Annandale; and his six nieces and nephews: James, Peter, and Tommy Leitch; Abigail and Cora Purvis; and Rowan Lewis. He was preceded in heaven by his grandparents Madeline (Fleming) and Robert Francis Murphy, and Roy Terrell. A service will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm in St. Andrew’s Parish Center, 22 Spring Street, Block Island. A reception at his uncle’s house will follow. Interment will be private. Donations in Owen’s memory may be made to the Block Island Conservancy or the Block Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
