Nikolaos “Niko” T. Panagopoulos, 80, formerly of West Warwick, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Brentwood Nursing Home in Warwick.
Born in Patra, Greece, he was the son of the late Theodoros and Paraskevi Panagopoulos. In 1971, Niko immigrated to the United States with his beloved wife, Kalliopi “Claire” (Siropoulos) Panagopoulos, and their two young children, in search of a new life built on family, faith, and opportunity. Together, Niko and Claire—his devoted wife of 56 years, who predeceased him just four months ago—created a warm and loving home in West Warwick, where they raised their four children and became active members of their community.
For more than two decades, Niko and Claire owned and operated Niko’s Grill on Providence Street, where friends and regulars gathered not only for the delicious food but also for the warmth, laughter, and hospitality that filled the room. Before immigrating, Niko proudly served in the Greek Army.
A man of deep pride in his heritage, Niko loved Greek music and films, a good cigar, and old Western movies. He was a life member of the Amici Club in West Warwick, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of lifelong friends.
Above all, Niko’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his four children: Paraskevi “Voula” Devlin and her husband Robert, Theodoros “Teddy” Panagopoulos and his wife Cindy, Kostantinos “Kosta” Panagopoulos, and Chrisoula Piscopio. He will be lovingly remembered by his eight grandchildren: Kristen, Kortney, Nikolaos, Emily, Melina, Juliana, Alayna, and Christian. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends in both the United States and Greece. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his eight siblings: Julia, Athanasia, Joanna, Despina, George, Panayioti “Taki”, Andrea, and Dimitri.
His funeral will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
