Mary Sherblum Obituary

Mary F. (Bardenheier) Sherblum, R.N., aged 91, of Coventry, departed this life peacefully on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Kent Hospital, Warwick.

She was the cherished wife of the late Carl A. Sherblum, Jr., to whom she was devoted for sixty-one loving years until his passing in 2018. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary was the treasured daughter of the late Ruth (Freeman) Bardenheier and the late Frank Mullivan. Since 1972, she graced the community of Coventry with her presence.

Mary Sherblum dedicated forty years of her life to compassionate care as a Registered Nurse, retiring from Cranston General Hospital in 1995. A proud graduate of the City Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary’s professional journey was marked by her membership in both the Rhode Island State Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Beyond her nursing career, Mary was a gifted artist, who found joy in drawing and traveling.

She leaves behind a legacy in her six beloved children: Carl J. Sherblum (Peggy) of Foster, Christine M. Cipressi (late Vincent) of Chepachet, Margaret A. Gorton of Coventry, Mary K. Pratt (Charles) of Groton, Connecticut, Debra A. Gates (Michael) of Groton, Connecticut, and Susan M. Yanno (Michael) of Coventry. Mary is also survived by two dear brothers, Frederick P. Bardenheier of St. Louis, Missouri, and Dr. Jean Bardenheier of Sierra Madre, California. Her seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews will forever cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Bardenheier.
