Mary Frances Lawless passed away on October 31, 2023, following a sudden illness taking her
far too soon from her beloved friends and family. Born in Wilmington, DE, on June 7, 1961,
Mary is predeceased by her parents Jack and Clare (Curry) Lawless, and survived by brothers
John F. Lawless of Driggs, ID, and Anthony O. Lawless of Highland Township, PA, and by her
sister Curry of Washington, D.C., brother-in-law Jim Hagerty, nieces Grace and Annie, and
nephew John.
Upon graduation from Octorara High School, in Atglen, PA, Mary attended Mount Saint Mary’s
College in Emmitsburg, MD. After college graduation, 1983, and travels across the western
United States and to international destinations, Mary made Block Island, RI, her home.
Mary was a cherished member of the Block Island community. As a gifted artist
and entrepreneur, she founded "Water Colors" a business promoting a unique collection of
American handcrafts that delighted loyal patrons. An intrepid traveler in the off season, Mary
also enjoyed volunteering in support of local community events and for many years served as a
leader in the Block Island Chamber of Commerce and the Block Island Lions Club. Known for
her incredible warmth of spirit, Mary left an enduring impact on everyone she met. Her zest for
life, love of adventure, and playful streak of mischief leaves lasting memories of her vibrant
presence.
