Mary Elizabeth (Gallagher) Atigian, 67, of Epping, NH, formerly of Cranston, RI, passed away unexpectedly on March 24, 2025, at her home after a brief illness. She was born on April 7, 1957, in Providence, RI, the daughter of the late John Patrick Gallagher and Margaret (Harahan) Gallagher.
Mary grew up in Cranston, RI, where she was one of three children in her family. Early on, she embraced her Irish heritage, training and competing in competitive Irish Step Dancing. Her dedication led her to win several competitions, a testament to her perseverance and talent. A proud graduate of Cranston East High School (Class of 1975), Mary went on to earn her associate degree as a medical secretary from Rhode Island Community College.
In March of 1975, Mary was introduced to Walter Atigian at Rhode Island Hospital. They quickly fell in love and were married on June 8, 1980. Their love story was one of adventure and shared experiences, beginning with a honeymoon in Bermuda and continuing with yearly travels both in the United States and abroad. Their favorite destinations included the Danube River on a Viking Cruise and the enchanting Christmas Fairs in Quebec. Over the years, they visited 15 different countries, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Professionally, Mary dedicated over 40 years to the real estate industry, where she became a well-known and respected figure. For many years, she served as a transaction coordinator with her own company, Agent Services by Mary Atigian. Previously, Mary earned her real estate license, working as an coordinator for several agencies, including Codman Realty, Ashwood Homes, Prudential (which became Verani and later Berkshire Hathaway), and Broker’s Title. She and Walter made Epping their home in 1984, building a life together in the house they created.
Mary was also an avid reader, owning thousands of books throughout her life. She cherished her small, informal book club, a gathering of close friends with whom she shared her love of literature for decades. She was a proud member of the Association of Realtors and held many dear friendships within the community.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Walter Atigian, brothers, Brian Thomas Gallagher and John Patrick Gallagher as well as John's common law wife Lorie Daley and their son Sean Patrick Gallagher.
