Mary A. (Silva) Costa, 78, of Grandview Drive in West Warwick, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, October 4, 2025, at Kent Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength.
She was the beloved wife of Manuel Costa, with whom she celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just two days prior, on October 2. Their enduring bond was a testament to a life built on shared faith, family, and unwavering commitment.
Born in São Miguel, Azores, Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Luis and Maria (Amaral) dos Anjos Silva. She immigrated to the United States at the age of twelve, and West Warwick quickly became her home—a place where she would plant deep roots and grow a beautiful life filled with purpose and love.
Mary dedicated 28 years to the West Warwick School District as a compassionate and nurturing teacher’s assistant, shaping young minds with kindness and patience until her retirement in 2006. Her love of learning never waned; she embraced technology later in life through the Senior Tech program at the West Warwick Library, always eager to keep pace with the world around her.
A devout Catholic, Mary was a faithful communicant of St. Anthony Church, where she found spiritual nourishment and community. Her faith guided her in all aspects of life—quietly, humbly, and generously.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: traveling the world with her loved ones, preparing home-cooked meals that brought family and friends together, and decorating for the Christmas season with unmatched warmth and care. Her home was a haven of comfort and tradition, especially during the holidays.
Mary is survived by her loving husband Manuel; her devoted children, Anthony M. Costa and his wife Lynn, and Christina M. Costa and her partner Keith Meloche; and her two adored grandchildren, Meridel and Mason Miguel. She also leaves behind nine beloved siblings and a wide circle of family and friends who will miss her gentle spirit deeply.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, Sunset Avenue, West Warwick. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours are Thursday, October 9, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Anthony Church, 10 Sunset Avenue, West Warwick, RI 02893.
