LANDY, Marsha, A. (Abbenante), 82, of West Warwick, passed away, Tuesday morning, August 3, 2021 at home.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mafalda (Ciamporcero) Abbenante.
Marsha was an elementary school teacher in the West Warwick School System for many years until retiring. She began in 1982, after spending years raising her three boys, and was at Providence Street School until it was closed. She enjoyed her colleagues, her students, and even recess duty as long as she was in her fur coat.
Marsha was a summer resident at Roy Carpenter’s Beach since the early 1950’s. She still remembered the day they evacuated for the ‘54 Hurricane, and the eeriness of the beach after. She loved the sun, the sand, a good book, friends, and a good card game.
Marsha enjoyed crossword puzzles, basketball, cooking for her family, her late dog, Buca, and her grandchildren. She was the ‘commisioner’ of a very competitive bracket league every spring, which will now be called “Marsh Madness” in her honor.
She is survived by three sons, Michael R. Landy and his wife, Patricia of Warwick Thomas W. Landy and his wife, Linda of Narragansett and David N. Landy of Denver, CO; two siblings, Maryanne Chiarello and Thomas Abbenante and seven grandchildren, Ryan, Lukas, Alison, Natalie, Emma, Seamus and Chloe. She was predeceased by her grandson, Samuel and daughter-in-law, Barbara.
Her funeral service and interment will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Rhode Island SPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 in her memory would be appreciated.
