Lucia Rocchio Obituary

ROCCHIO, Lucia (Siravo), 89, of Mello Street, West Warwick, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, December 30, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at home.

She was the beloved wife of the late Albert R. Rocchio and the late Charles J. Eddington.  Born in Roccaravindola, Italy. She was the daughter of the late Michele and Carmela (Siravo) Siravo.  She was a resident of West Warwick for many years.

Lucia was employed with housekeeping services in the baby nursery at Kent Hospital for many years until retiring. She was a communicant of SS. Peter & Paul Church, an avid seamstress and a member of Parents without Partners organization.

Lucia was a true trailblazer for her time.  Lucia was born premature to a mother who was 40 years old.  They believed Lucia would not thrive; they had burial clothes, similar to a robe a saint would wear.  Lucia's strong will to thrive was a true testament of how she would live her life. Lucia was the youngest of her three siblings.  Her oldest sister was 18 years old and at times this was confusing for young Lucia.  She recalled her mother always dressed in all black and saw her mother almost like a grandmother. She would refer to her older sister as momma.

Fast forward -- 1952 -- Lucia and her best friend Teresa Rocchio decide they don't want to remain in Italy as work opportunities were not available.  They departed on a journey that would bring them to Edinburgh, Scotland.  Both Lucia and Teresa fell in love with Scottsmen and got married.

When Lucia met Charlie, he was the eldest of five siblings, the youngest being only four years old at the time.  Charlie's father passed away at the early age of 37 so Charlie was responsible for his siblings.  Lucia took to the family right away.  She was learning English and Charlie was learning to speak and cook Italian foods.  Lucia became a family member instantly and Charlie adapted immediately to the Italian culture.

Fast forward 1962, Lucia's aunt and uncle invite them to America.  We arrived in Rhode Island in July of 1962.

Lucia was a caring, loving person and had many friends.  She had many Italian friends that came from the same region, which she would enjoy the grand get togethers.  She loved to cook, she loved ballroom dancing, visited the YMCA a few times per week to partake in water aerobics.  Lucia always had a smile on her face and never complained about anything.  She will be remembered for her kindness and love for all.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane L. Eddington-Doyon (late husband Kevin M. Doyon) of West Warwick; a son, Michael J. Eddington and his wife Samantha of West Greenwich; a grandson, Tyler M. Doyon and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving family in Scotland, Brian Eddington, Yvonne (Eddington) & Joseph Nicholson, Jackie & Jan Eddington.

She was the sister of the late Pasquale Siravo, Clementina Ricci and Adelina Ricci and sister-in-law of the late Theresa M. DiChristofaro.  Family members in Scotland that pre-deceased her, George and Anne (Common) Eddington and Theresa M. Eddington.
