Lillian M. (Bouchard) Martin

Lillian M. (Bouchard) Martin, 93, formerly of Block Island, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, with her daughter and son by her side at The Holiday Retirement Home, Lincoln, R.I.

Born in North Providence, a daughter of the late Arthur and Cora (Auclair) Bouchard, Lillian was a resident ofJohnston where she raised her children, and Block Island for nearly forty years.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen M. Martin of Block Island, and Robert W. Martin and his wife Cheryl Webster of Cumberland.

Lillian was affectionately referred to as Memere by her grandchildren Sara Gustafson and her husband Keith, Kyle Martin and his wife Christie Beaulieu, and Christopher Cahill and his wife Hope. She also leaves six beloved great grandchildren, Nathan, Sophia and Brooke Gustafson, Gemma Martin, Nolan and Katelyn Cahill. She was dearly loved by many nieces and nephews. 

Lillian was predeceased by her daughter Linda E. Cahill, and sisters Edna R. Lefebvre and Beatrice E. Cyr.

Prior to retiring to Block Island, Lillian worked as a Special Education teacher’s aide for over twenty five years in the Johnston School system. She was actively involved in the Girl Scouts, PTA and Saint Lawrence Church groups. 

Once retired, Lillian did not slow down. She spent her days working as a bookkeeper for the Surf Hotel, in addition to the many other hats she wore. Always the entertainer and seamstress, Lillian sang in the ecumenical choir, created costumes for and performed in many summer Extravaganzas. As a member of the Saint Andrew Ladies Guild, Lillian was well known for her Tourtiere (French pork pie) that she made for every Saint Patrick’s Day brunch. 

Later in life, Lillian so enjoyed being the hostess at her home where she welcomed all for a cup of tea, a mug of hot chocolate or a meal. 

Beautiful, kind, sweet Lillian will be so very missed by all who loved her. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Andrew Church, Chapel Street, Block Island.  Visitation one hour prior to the Mass from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Church.  Interment will be in Island Cemetery, Block Island. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the “Mary D.
