SARANDREA, JR., Joseph M., Sgt. PPD (Ret.), of Johnston, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, October 12, 2022 at home.
He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline A. (Lemoi) Sarandrea, they had been married for forty years. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Linda (Walters) Sarandrea. He resided in Johnston for many years.
Joe served thirty six years with the Providence Police Department before retiring as a sergeant in 2002. Following his time with PPD, he served with the Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs from 2002 before retiring in 2019. He was a Vietnam War Army Veteran, a member of the Providence FOP Lodge 3, the Providence Police and Firefighter’s Retirement Association, the RI Council 94 AFSCME AFL-CIO, the RI Amateur Radio Association and the RI Quarter Scale Modelers Association.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Joseph R. Sarandrea of Edgewater, FL, John J. Sarandrea of Cranston, Andrew M. Nassef and his wife Elizabeth, Michele A. Brogno and Michael G. Nassef, Jr. and his wife Catherine and the late Denise A. Caranci her husband Michael Caranci; a brother, James J. Sarandrea and his wife Sue; eighteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 8:45 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Interment with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
