Joseph S. Cienava, 92, of Coventry, formerly of Warwick, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday afternoon, July 10, 2026, at home.
He was the beloved husband of Jeanne C. (Dubuc) Cienava, with whom he shared sixty-six years of marriage. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Joseph and Martha (Kulasewski) Cienava. He was a resident of Warwick for many years before moving to Coventry nineteen years ago.
Mr. Cienava was a master plumber with the State of Rhode Island for many years, retiring as a supervisor after a long and dedicated career. A proud United States Navy veteran, he honorably served his country during the Korean War.
Joe was an avid New England sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering on the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and the many wonderful memories they created together, including the cruises they enjoyed over the years.
Besides his beloved wife, he leaves his three children, Claire DiMaio and her husband William of North Kingstown, Michael J. Cienava and his wife Sheila of Warwick, and Jane O’Hare and her husband Timothy of Attleboro, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Meghan, Billy, Janelle, Michael II, and Lauren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth J. “Betty” Salhany and Violet Glasser.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 9:00-10:30 AM in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington Street, Coventry.
