John G. DaTerra, 89, of Sunrise, Florida, formerly of Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, November 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the long-time companion of Odete Cordeiro.
Born in Pico, Azores, he was the son of the late Joao T. and Branca J. (Carias) DaTerra. John resided in Warwick for many years before moving to Sunrise, Florida.
John was employed for over thirty years as a foreman at the Original Bradford Soap Works in West Warwick before his retirement. He was also the former proprietor of the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) on Reservoir Avenue in Cranston for ten years.
A man of many passions, John loved traveling and, in his younger years, was an avid tuna fisherman. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, devotion to family, and love for his faithful Chihuahua, Pico.
In addition to his companion, Odete, he is survived by his beloved daughters, Nancy M. Eckman and her husband, Christopher, and Linda A. DaTerra-Lourenco and her husband, Adalberto; and two cherished granddaughters, Alexandra and Megan Lourenco. He was predeceased by his former wife Maria (Lobao) DaTerra.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, Sunset Avenue, West Warwick. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.
