John J. Burdick, Jr., 70, of North Kingstown, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Monday morning, February 9, 2026, at Kent Hospital.
Born in Providence, he was the beloved son of the late John J. Burdick, Sr. and Roberta M. (Luongo) Burdick. John was raised in Providence and Smithfield before moving to North Kingstown seven years ago.
Affectionately known as Johnny, he was among the first Olympians to participate in the Special Olympics, an achievement that remained a proud and meaningful part of his life. A devoted sports fan, Johnny especially enjoyed cheering for all the New England teams. He found great joy in simple pleasures—Especially FaceTiming with his family, watching movies, listening to the radio, collecting trucks, and sharing his enthusiasm with those around him.
John is survived by his devoted sisters, Lori A. Keegan and her husband Robert, and Carole M. Richards and her husband Christopher; his cherished nieces and nephews, Courtney L. Stiasny, Leeanna M. Raposo, Ryan P. Keegan, and Matthew D. Keegan; and eight beloved great-nieces and great-nephews; and his aunt Anela Poudrier; and his most beloved caregiver Cynthia Cady.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 5:00–7:00 p.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a funeral home prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be private at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Johnny’s memory to Special Olympics Rhode Island, 370 George Washington Highway, Smithfield, RI 02917.
