Obituary

Jeannine (Cayouette) Gallucci passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the Roberts Health Centre in North Kingstown, RI, following a sudden illness. She was 93 years young.

Jeannine and her twin sister Jeanne were born in New Jersey on December 29, 1929. One can only imagine the difficulty of trying to raise twin daughters at the start of the Great Depression, but parents Lorenzo and Cecile (Hebert) Cayouette were up to the task. The family eventually moved to Rhode Island, where the girls graduated from West Warwick High School in 1946.

Throughout their lives together, the twins remained the best of friends, standing up for one another at their respective weddings. Jeannine married William “Bill” Gallucci a few years after his return from serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. This was the so-called “baby boom,” and the couple made a significant contribution. Joyce was born in 1950, Gary in 1951, Linda in 1953, Paul in 1955 and Joan in 1957. That comes to five offspring in seven years.

How does one measure the worth of someone’s life? Is it through monetary gain? Career achievements? In truth, Jeannine’s resume is devoid of such things. She instead contented herself with running the household.for her ever-growing family. This meant lots of cooking and cleaning, while simultaneously serving as the driving force in raising five young children.

Most would probably describe this as a thankless existence, or subsistence as it were. But Jeannine didn’t complain. At least, her children weren’t privy to any complaints on her part. She just kept rolling along, trying to make the best of whatever came the family’s way. She offered sympathy to anyone hurting, and discipline to those who strayed from the path of goodness.

The result of her unrelenting efforts was the gift she inevitably bestowed upon the world: Five young people with proper morals and values who would each make their mark in some quiet, unassuming way. Those five young people are older now…much older, actually. But they are all thankful for the woman who gave so much of herself to make them what they are today.

After her babies left the nest, Jeannine went to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance on Bald Hill Road. It was a job she loved. She remained with the company for 18 years, retiring in 1996.

Jeannine was an avid reader, consuming dozens of books every year. Her favorites were mysteries involving many twists and turns. She also enjoyed watching TV game shows that challenged her intellect, such as Jeopardy, Chain Reaction and 25 Words or Less. She was much loved by the staff at Roberts Health Centre, several of whom regularly sought her advice about various personal issues. Her willingness to act as a sounding board became legendary.

In addition to children Joyce D’Orsi (Peter), Gary Gallucci (Carol), Linda Wojcik (Bill Coffey), Paul Gallucci (Elena Fernandini) and Joan Brousseau (Peter), Jeannine is survived by a horde of grandchildren and great-grandchildren…all contributing significantly to her legacy. She was predeceased by her husband, former West Warwick Police Chief Bill Gallucci, parents Lorenzo and Cecile (Hebert) Cayouette, beloved twin sister Jeanne Nagel and brother Emile Cayouette.
