James G. Gereau, 81, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Alpine Nursing Home in Coventry.
He was the beloved husband of Jeanne E. (Tevyaw) Gereau. Together they shared nearly fifty-five years of marriage and were looking forward to celebrating their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary this September.
Born in West Warwick, Jim was the son of the late Charles and Victoria Anita "Alice" (Fleury) Gereau. He was a lifelong resident of West Warwick and took great pride in the community he called home throughout his life.
Jim enjoyed a distinguished career in men's clothing sales spanning more than three decades. He began working at the former Wallach's Men's Clothing Store at the Warwick Mall in 1972, where he remained until 1994. In 1995, he joined Jos. A. Bank Clothiers in Garden City, continuing to provide exceptional service to his customers until his retirement in 2006. His professionalism, warm personality, and dedication earned him the respect and friendship of countless colleagues and loyal customers.
A proud United States Army veteran, Jim honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong communicant of the former St. James Church and remained a devoted parishioner after its merger into SS. John and James Church. Faith, family, and service were the cornerstones of his life.
Jim found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He especially enjoyed playing cards—particularly cribbage—watching football, and spending time with his family, whose love and companionship meant everything to him.
Besides his devoted wife, Jeanne, he leaves his loving children, Michael J. Gereau, Mark R. Gereau, Richard T. Gereau, and Carolyn J. Gereau and her husband, Ken Mancuso. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren and great-grandfather of four great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Charles Gereau, Jr.
His family will remember Jim as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, faithful parishioner, and loyal friend whose quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in SS.
