James J. Bromley, 91, of Chester, Virginia, formerly of Rhode Island, passed away at his home with his son David on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
He was born in Providence, a son of the late Raymond C. and Dorothy (Colizza) Bromley.
In the Army he received the Good Conduct Medal, Occupation Medal Germany and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a United States Air Force flight mechanic for many years before retiring. In the Air Force, he earned many more medals and commendations and served in the United States and abroad, including Vietnam.
Following retirement from the military, he worked in the hardware business and enjoyed woodworking. He was a lover of words, reading the dictionary only days before his death. He also loved good music, especially jazz.
He is survived by two sons, David Bromley and Michael Bromley; two sisters, Eileen Gouveia and Joyce Ansay and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alice Schenck, Carmella Edwards, Anna Bromley, George Bromley and Raymond Bromley. He had a fond relationship with his former wife Carol, mother of his two sons. James Bromley was a gregarious person who attracted new friends easily.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a funeral home service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors in Notre Dame Cemetery, Burlingame Road, West Warwick, also the resting place of his beloved parents.
