Gerald Ciarlo Obituary

Gerald W. “Uncle Sonny” Ciarlo, 94, of Johnston, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, June 26, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Luigi and Antonietta (Aquilante) Ciarlo. He was a lifelong resident of Johnston.

Mr. Ciarlo served during the Korean War with the United States Army.  He was employed in the construction industry with Bowerman Construction for many years and retired from Mine Safety Appliances Co. in Smithfield.  He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots.

Loving uncle of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was the brother of the late Ida Ciarlo, Emily Raffonelli Conca, Lillian Ciarlo, Gloria David, Remo Ciarlo and Mary Branca.  

A visitation will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Rhode Island Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907 would be appreciated.
