George R. Lackey, Jr., 80, of Hopkinton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at home.
He was the beloved husband of Iris A. (Perry) Lackey, they have been married for thirty-seven years. Born in Providence, the son of the late George R. Lackey, Sr. and Helen (Proulx) Lackey-Edwards. He was a resident of Coventry before moving to Hopkinton in 1988.
In 1963, George was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served until 1965. Following his military service, he embarked on a 38-year career at General Dynamics, working as an Outside Machinist and later as a Supervisor. Afterward, George continued his professional journey as an Engineer at Foxwoods, retiring in 2011.
George’s leisure time was a celebration of his many passions and talents. A lifelong woodworker, he created beautiful furniture and took immense pride in remodeling his cherished 1830s home, a place that truly reflects his spirit. As a former racecar crew chief, he carried his love for speed into his later years, finding joy in watching NASCAR. But perhaps his happiest moments were spent on his farm, where he felt most at peace riding his tractor. His home, his hobbies, and his farm were all extensions of the life he loved, and they will remain a lasting testament to the remarkable man he was.
Besides his wife, he leaves his sister Judith Provencal of Colrain, Massachusetts, his children Deanne Lackey of Arizona, George Rhody Lackey Ⅲ and his wife Crystal of Moosup, Connecticut, Edward Dwyer and his wife Dereyth of Coventry, and Hollie Willett and her husband Peter of Coventry. Dear to his heart, and also surviving their grandpa are Brian and Brendan Worcester, Sara and Zachary Lackey, Kayla DaSilva and her husband Alexander, Raegan Dwyer, Tyler Willett and his wife Reilly, Kyle Willett, Meagan Willett, and his only great-grandchild, Eloise Willett.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 am in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 am.
