Frank M. Furmankiewicz, 78, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, October 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Kent Hospital in Warwick. A lifelong resident of West Warwick, Frank was the beloved son of the late Frank J. and Sophie (Slota) Furmankiewicz.
A proud veteran, Frank served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. Following his military service, he worked as a dedicated machine operator for the Hoechst Chemical Company in Coventry for 30 years until his retirement. Never one to remain idle, he worked at Valley Fuel for several years and then went on to serve his community in the Waste Management Department for the Town of West Warwick for 10 years before formally retiring in 2012.
Frank was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church and an active member of the PNA Club. He was known for his kindness, loyalty, and deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. A devoted local sports fan, he could often be found cheering on the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, and Providence College Friars. Frank also loved spending time outdoors—whether tending to his garden and growing his prized tomatoes, casting a line while fishing, or enjoying the serenity of Block Island. He especially loved attending outdoor concerts and sharing laughter with family and friends.
He is survived by his step-son, Capt. Jacob R. Ballard, (USMC) and his wife, Christina; three siblings, Joan Lague (late husband Ronald Lague), Carolyn Prytula and her husband David Legault (late husband Peter Prytula, Jr.), and Michael F. Furmankiewicz and his wife, Lisa; and two cherished granddaughters, Claire and Julia Ballard. He also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his warmth and humor.
His funeral will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington Street, Coventry. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours will be Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
