Francine H. Colavecchio, 75, of Johnston, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Surrounded by compassion and grace, Francine’s journey came to a gentle close, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, quiet strength, and deep devotion to others.
Born in Providence, Francine was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Albertha E. (Levesque) Colavecchio. She was raised in West Warwick, where her lifelong values of empathy and dedication took root. For the past three decades, she made her home in Johnston, where she continued to share her warmth and generosity with everyone she met.
Francine devoted her professional life to public service, working for 30 years at the Rhode Island Department of Human Services. Through her tireless commitment, she touched countless lives with her compassion, integrity, and unwavering work ethic. A proud alumna of West Warwick High School, Class of 1967, Francine brought intelligence and heart to all she did.
Francine had a vibrant spirit and a zest for life. She loved to travel, embracing the opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories with those she loved. Whether it was a weekend getaway or an adventure farther from home, she treasured the experiences and the connections they deepened.
An avid reader, Francine found comfort and inspiration in the written word. She was also deeply drawn to the serenity of the beach—the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the peace it brought to her soul. Scrabble was a favorite pastime, where her sharp mind and playful competitiveness came to life during spirited games with family and friends.
Francine cherished many close friendships throughout the years, bringing joy to her life from her youth to her final days with us. Her friends were a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering support, and she held each one close to her heart.
She will be lovingly remembered by her nephew, Michael R. Walker; her niece, Karen E. Austin; a cherished great-niece and great-nephew; and many dear friends whose lives were touched by her grace and generosity. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Elizabeth A. Walker, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond, and her dear friend Gail Perlow, whose companionship was a cherished gift.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of the Oncology Department at Rhode Island Hospital and the team at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center for their extraordinary compassion and support during Francine’s final days. Special gratitude is also extended to her devoted circle of friends, especially Jeanne Riley, and her caring neighbors, Christine and John, who provided invaluable help and companionship over the years.
