Eleanor R. (Trommer) DeLuca

Eleanor R. DeLuca, known to all as simply “Ellie” was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, who peacefully departed this life on June 5th, 2025, at the age of 91 surrounded by her loving family at Kent Hospital. Born on a Christmas Day in 1934 at Wyckoff Heights Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, Ellie was a cherished daughter of the late Max and Rosa Trommer.  She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James DeLuca (Jimmy), with whom she shared 26 years of marriage until his passing in November 1984. Along with her beloved fur babies, Bandit, Riley and Remy, who with tails wagging waited patiently, in heaven for Grandma to come be with them.

Ellie was a proud graduate of John Adams High School in Queens, NY.  She furthered her education at a business school, where she honed her skills as an executive secretary. A woman of resilience and determination, Ellie embraced new challenges and, after becoming a widow, attended the Community College of Rhode Island to learn about computers. Her proficiency in writing and speaking German was a testament to her diverse talents and intellectual curiosity.

Her professional journey was illustrious, marked by her roles as executive secretary to the President of Bosch Corp, Stuttgart, Germany and later to the President of General Transistors in Richmond Hill, NY. It was at General Transistors where she met her future husband, Jimmy. Ellie’s work ethic and dedication were admired by all who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Ellie’s zest for life extended beyond her career.  She was an avid traveler, leaving home at 19, moving to Germany to live with her grandmother. Exploring the world up until health issues made it difficult in her later years.  Her love for classic movies, especially Westerns anything starring Audie Murphy, John Wayne, or Rory Calhoun, was well-known among her family and friends.  Her passion for horses and horse racing, sparked by her proximity to Aqueduct Race Track, Queens NY during her childhood, was infectious, she never missed the Kentucky Derby and always had a favorite horse to cheer for.

Those who knew Ellie will remember her quick wit, infectious smile and the patience and understanding she extended to everyone around her.  She was a confidant and a counselor, providing a listening ear without passing judgement. Ellie had a remarkable ability to speak her mind and gently close the subject, leaving peace in her wake.

She is survived by her loving son, Richard DeLuca, and her daughter and caretaker Kimberly DeLuca Solan, who carry forward her legacy.  Ellie also leaves behind her little sister, Ingrid Serra, “Ingy” of Coram, MT, her cherished grandsons, James and Allen DeLuca, and her precious great-granddaughter and namesake, Eleanor.  Numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family, Dr. David Pezzullo, wife Elizabeth and daughters, Olivia and Eliza, “my girls” as Ellie would refer to them.

Ellies family extends their heartfelt gratitude to RN Bette and all the CNAs at Kent Hospital, who provided exceptional care during her final days.  Special thanks are also due to her health care provider, Paula Hughes, PA for her unwavering dedication to Ellie’s wellness.  A special mention is made for Olivia and Liz Pezzullo, whose love and care for “Elliebear” made an immeasurable difference in her life and brought comfort to the family.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a funeral home service at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.

Ellie’s warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable lady, we celebrate her life, her legacy and the love she shared with so many.  May her memory be a blessing, and may she rest in eternal peace.  Love you Ma.
