Dorothy H. (Tavares) Leonard

Dorothy H. (Tavares) Leonard, 97, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Wednesday morning, November 6, 2024 at home.

She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio J. Leonard, who passed away in 2006. Born in Hope, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Sousa) Tavares. She was a resident of West Warwick for most of her life.

Mrs. Leonard helped during World War II “war efforts” assisting with filling batteries at Royal Mills and later was a lace puller at Anthony Mills. She loved spending time with her family, was a very talented crocheter and enjoyed attending the Hope Alzheimer’s Center.

She is survived by her three sons, Thomas J. Leonard and his wife Beverly, Tony R. Leonard and his wife Carol and James E. Leonard; four grandchildren, Braden, Treven, Kimberly and Sherilyn and three great-grandchildren, Tony, Maddie and Jensen-Drew. She is predeceased by her siblings, Manuel Tavares, Antonio Tavares, Louis Tavares, Joseph Tavares, Irene Tavares, Lydia Mendes, Mary Raposo and Angelina Messier.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, Sunset Ave., West Warwick.
