KIMMEL, Dolores Helen (Demers), 86, of Coventry, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, June 10, 2023, at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Albert “Al” Kimmel, who passed away in 2005. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late George Arthur Demers and Florence Marie (Cartier) Demers. She was a resident of Coventry for 58 years.
Dolores was a 1954 Graduate of St. Charles Borromeo School, Providence where she was a volunteer sacristan, and played guard for the girls’ basketball team.
She loved her part-time job as the popcorn girl at the Rhode Island Auditorium, where she enjoyed watching Rhode Island Reds hockey games.
After their marriage, Dolores and Al lived in Providence, moving to Coventry in 1965, where she happily resided for the remainder of her life.
Dolores was a fantastic and prolific cook, and frequently made French bread and other delicacies from scratch.
Dolores and Al also traveled extensively, visiting much of the US and Canada, as well as Europe, Asia, and the Pacific over many years.
She is survived by her children, Katherine M. Kimmel of Coventry, RI; Stephen G. Kimmel, MD and Arlyn E. Melocotones of Dickinson, TX; Kristen E. Kimmel and Cornelius Canty of Maynard, MA; her grandchildren Sarah, Alexandria, Nicholas, Matthew, Madeleine, Christopher, Liam and Collin; her great grandchildren Sybil, Rya, and Lilith; her twin sister Doris (Demers) Paquette, and Dennis Zanni of N. Scituate, RI; She was predeceased by her siblings George, Florence, Wilfred, Robert, Raymond, Alfred and Irene.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in SS. John and Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.
