David J. Magiera, RPh., 87, of Park Street, West Warwick, peacefully passed at home on Tuesday afternoon, August 27th.
David was the beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Picard) Magiera for sixty-one wonderful years before her passing in May 2023 last year. Born on August 22, 1937, to the late Frank and Anna (Skorski) Magiera, he was a lifelong resident of West Warwick who took pride in living a life centered around family. He was a graduate of West Warwick High School and The University of Rhode Island’s College of Pharmacy (class of ‘59). He began his career at Mars Pharmacy in Coventry before purchasing Cardin’s Drug Store, in Phenix, in 1968.
At Cardin’s, a unique soda-fountain pharmacy establishment, David and his wife, Joan, served their community while creating life-long friendships and many wonderful memories. After selling Cardin’s in 1988, David worked as a pharmacist first at CVS and then Walmart before retiring in 2007.
David was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in all of his children. His role as Dziadziu, to his four beautiful granddaughters, brought him endless joy. He loved spending time together, especially the summer pool days at his house through the years.
David served in the Army National Guard Reserve and was a long-time member of the Little Rhody Beagle Club. He had many interests and talents from refereeing hockey, to playing golf, to hunting and, of course, gardening. David enjoyed his days to the fullest. He was also a gracious host known for his Sunday dinners, Thanksgivings at his camp in Maine and Christmas Eves celebrations.
He is survived by his children, Dimity Magiera, Deborah Magiera, David Magiera and Mark Magiera and his wife Kara; four granddaughters, Alexis Langevin (Paul), Abigail, Brianna and Addison Magiera; two great granddaughters, Chloe and Camryn Langevin and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was the brother of the late Cecilia B. Keenan, Stasia Spear, Frank J. Magiera, Ambrose R. Magiera, Dr. Daniel Magiera, Isabelle Brown, Bernard F. “Benny” Magiera, Sylvester Magiera, Louis Magiera, Eugene Magiera and Sophie Magiera.
His funeral will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. from the PRATA- GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in SS. John and James Church, Washington Street, West Warwick. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick.
