David A. Kenahan, 96, of East Providence, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday afternoon, March 20, 2026, at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol.
He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Welshman) Kenahan, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage before her passing in 2016.
Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur A. and Corinne C. (Duhamel) Kenahan and remained a proud and devoted resident of his hometown for most of his life.
Mr. Kenahan was employed with H.P. Hood, Inc. for forty-two years, where he built a respected career in sales and administration, retiring in August of 1992 from their Boston offices. A proud veteran, he served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Committed to public service, he represented Ward 3 on the East Providence City Council from 1970 to 1972.
He was a graduate of Bryant-Stratton College, now Bryant University. A man of deep faith and generosity, David devoted many years as a volunteer with the Assumption Church Food Pantry in Providence and offered his time and talents to various church parishes throughout East Providence. Known for his remarkable skill and ingenuity, he was a man who could fix or build just about anything, always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing and was a member of several local golf leagues, where he cherished both the game and the camaraderie of friends.
He is survived by his loving children, Peter W. Kenahan, Charles M. Kenahan, Anne M. Karmon, Arthur A. Kenahan, and Elizabeth A. “Liz” O’Connor and her husband Mark; fifteen cherished grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was the devoted father of the late David A. Kenahan, Jr. and Mary E. Kenahan, and the dear brother of the late Richard R. Kenahan.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM in St. Martha Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM.
