Barbara A. (Pickering) Prata, 74, formerly of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Briarcliffe Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Johnston. A Rhode Island resident for most of her life, Barbara was born in Providence to the late Francis J. and Virginia (Hall) Pickering and remained devoted to her community and faith throughout her life.
Barbara dedicated twelve years of service as the Director of Religious Education at Immaculate Conception Church in Cranston, retiring in 2012. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, with whom she shared countless cherished moments. She was also an avid reader who found comfort and adventure in the pages of her books.
She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, David M. Prata and Brian D. Prata and his wife Andrea; her sister, Patricia A. Dias; two brothers, Francis J. Pickering, Jr. and James F. Pickering, Sr.; and her four adored grandchildren. Her legacy of faith, selflessness, and tenacity will live on in all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor Barbara’s life at her funeral on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Garden Hills Drive, Cranston. Interment will follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
