Barbara Potter Obituary

Barbara A. (Camera) Potter, 77, formerly of Smithfield, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland, where she found comfort in the compassionate care of the Catholic health ministry.

Born in Pawtucket, she was the beloved daughter of the late George B. and Anne M. (Trunk) Camera.

Barbara was a lifelong Rhode Island resident and a proud graduate of Cranston East High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing. She spent her nursing career at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence, serving in both clinical and administrative roles before retiring. She raised her family in Smithfield, where she was a proud supporter of youth sports programs and an active member of the St. Philip’s community.

Barbara was a voracious reader, an exceptional baker, skilled host, and an avid crafter with a special love for painting and woodworking. She lived with Multiple Sclerosis for more than 50 years and remained deeply engaged in support and fundraising efforts at both the state and national levels.

She is survived by her children, Matthew J. Potter and Karen Montecalvo and husband, Keith; and grandson, Landon J. Montecalvo. She was the sister of Joanne Maltagliati and husband, Jim; David Camera and wife, Paula; Anne Theriault and husband, Rob; Jeannette Axelsson and husband, Eric; and the late George E. Camera. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her former spouse, James R. Potter.

Her funeral service and burial will be private.
