Arthur Pitt Obituary

Arthur E. Pitt, 90, of Coventry, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 10, 2025, surrounded by the love and presence of his devoted family.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Arthur was the cherished son of the late Francis M. and Edna (Wienberg) Pitt. A longtime resident of Coventry since 1971, he was a man of quiet strength, deep devotion, and boundless love for his family.

He was the beloved husband of the late Elaine A. (St. Pierre) Pitt, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage before her passing in 2005. Their bond was a foundation of love and partnership that continued to inspire their family.

Growing up in Long Island, NY, he attended Baldwin High School, later transferring to Pearl River High where he graduated in 1953. After graduation, Arthur worked in New York’s Financial District.  Arthur then honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and continued in the U.S. Army Corps Reserve until 1963.

After relocating to Narragansett, RI, he met and fell in love with Elaine, marrying her in 1971, gaining two young daughters, Debra and Constance, who he loved as his own. Arthur and Elaine were blessed one year later with their son Michael. He worked as a dedicated machinist at Stanley Bostitch in East Greenwich for many years, retiring in 1994.

He was a skilled photographer, a voracious reader, and an avid fisherman.  As a model train enthusiast, he delighted in creating intricate train track displays in his home. He had a deep love for the railroad, and some of his fondest adventures were spent traveling the country by train, reveling in the beauty of the journey.  Arthur donated his time by teaching literacy through the Literary Volunteers of America organization. He also coached little league baseball.

Retirement allowed time to enjoy traveling the country with his wife, especially their trip and cruise in Alaska and provided more time to spend with his grandchildren, sharing stories from his life.  Above all, Arthur treasured time spent with his family. He was a devoted and proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His warmth, wisdom, and humor will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

He is survived by his three loving children: Debra A. Smith (late husband Michael), Constance M. Carroll (husband Richard), and Michael A. Pitt; his brother, Kenneth Pitt (late wife Jean), six adored grandchildren: Gregory and Zachary Smith, Thomas and Jack Carroll, and Michael Jr. (wife Sarah) and Garrett Pitt; and two cherished great-grandchildren: Michael III and Roman Pitt. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Pitt, and his companion, Patricia Campbell.

His funeral will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in SS. John and Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry. Interment with military honors will follow at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
