Antonio L. Deus, Jr., 89, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 10, 2026.
He was the beloved husband of Maria dos Anjos (Lima) Deus, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Ribeira Quente, São Miguel, Azores, Antonio was the son of the late Antonio and Maria (Pimentel) Deus.
Antonio came to the United States in 1954 and served as foreman at Forest Hills Nursery, where he worked his entire career. He was a proud member of the Rhode Island Laborers Union. He was also a member of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society and the Portuguese American Citizens Club, where he proudly served as President.
Antonio had a lifelong love of fishing, gardening and wine making. He possessed a remarkable talent for cultivating flowers, trees, fruits, and vegetables, taking great pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. His generosity, hard work, and love of nature brought joy to all who knew him.
He was a devoted father to Antonio L. Deus III and his wife, Jeanne; Lucia Deus and her partner, Brian Daleiden; and Victoria (Vicki) Deus. He was the extremely proud grandfather to Michael J. Deus and Joshua A. Deus, who brought him great joy.
Antonio was the eldest of ten children. He was predeceased by his brother, Manuel Deus. He is survived by his brothers Evo, Carlos, Joseph, Horace, and Angelo Deus, and his sisters Madalena Miudo, Mary Amaral, and Nobina Deus.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 9:00 AM from the PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Church, Sunset Avenue, West Warwick. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours will be Monday, June 15, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM.
