Anna Sylvester was born on July 2, 1934. She died on August 31, 2025. She was the daughter of John and Lucinda Sylvester and sister to the late Daniel D. Sylvester. She leaves behind her sister, Margaret (Sister Marianna Sylvester) nieces, nephews and cousins. She graduated from St Mary’s Bayview Academy in Riverside RI and received her Masters Degree from Rhode Island College. She lived the life of a Sister of Mercy for thirty-eight years and educated children in various parishes in MA and RI. She continued teaching at Gladstone Elementary School in Cranston, RI and at 82 years old, retired after serving 22 years. She made a promise to each child that entered her classroom: “I will make sure you will be able to read by the end of this school year.” Comments from teachers: “Anna shows true dedication. She has the ability to pinpoint what a child needs and goes the extra mile to provide it. I have witnessed her patience first hand. She is always at school at the crack of dawn preparing for her day. She was never absent. It is amazing how she manages to stay so youthful and full of energy!” After retirement the creativity, enthusiasm and excitement of her life continued as she meticulously planned to visit a new country each year, which she accomplished until 2022. Thank you, Anna, for freely offering the talents you were given, to make visible, God’s Beloved Community.

IRISH BLESSING BY TOM KENDZIA
May the road rise up to meet you,
may the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
Until we meet again,
until we meet again,
may God hold you, may God hold you,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
