Anna D. Sunness, born Anna Lucia (Bevilacqua) Drinkwater on August 26, 1929, to the late Edward C. Drinkwater and Anna L. (Mecurio) Drinkwater of Cranston, RI, passed away peacefully with loved ones around her on December 12, 2023, she was 94. Anna was known for her warm heart, infectious sense of humor and kind spirit and will be dearly missed by her loved ones.
Anna is survived by her loving daughters, Christy Menard of San Antonio, TX, and Susan Menard of Coventry, RI. Anna was preceded in death by her daughter, Dr. Michele M. Holt of Coventry, RI and her husbands, David J. Sunness and Robert P. Menard.
Anna is also survived by her stepchildren, Eric Sunness of Fort Collins, CO, Cheryl Sunness of Fort Collins, CO, and Benjamin Sunness of Binghamton, NY. Anna will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Melissa Reynolds, Justin Pelosi, Mathew Holt, Katherin Kline, Andrew Kline, Alex Breeden, Megan Breeden, and Emma Sunness, as well as, great-grandchildren: Grace Renolds, Dylan Reynolds, Wyatt Pelosi, Corrina Pelosi, Bryson Holt, Stella Holt, and Kingston VanCleave.
Anna graduated Cranston East High School and attended Boston University after high school. Active in local politics for a number of years, Anna served on the Cranston School Committee for four years during the 1950’s and 60’s. She became Executive Director of the Coventry Housing Authority in the 1970’s and dedicated her professional life to helping others and making a significant impact on the lives of people in her community. Anna also obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business from the Community College of Rhode Island.
For many years, Anna pursued her love of music and the stage as a member of the Coventry Players Theater Group. She had a passion for the arts and loved singing and playing the piano. Anna was a member of the St. John & Paul and Immaculate Conception choirs for many years.
Anna will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife. Her kind and compassionate nature touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving behind cherished memories that will be held close to the heart.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Committal Service to honor Anna's life on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Joseph's Cemetery Chapel, 959 Nooseneck Hill Road, West Greenwich, RI.
