Alfred DeMaio Obituary

Alfred B. DeMaio, 81, formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, June 30, 2025, at Elmhurst Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Providence. A proud Rhode Island native, Alfred was born in Providence, the beloved son of the late Alfred and M. Teresa (Covellone) DeMaio. He spent his formative years in Cranston before settling in Pawtucket, where he would live much of his life with quiet dignity, humor, and deep commitment to family and community.

Alfred served his country with honor during the Vietnam War era as a member of the United States Army. His service led him to work at the Pentagon for three years, an experience he carried with pride. Upon returning home to Rhode Island, Alfred built a long and steady career as a rate clerk with the former MacLean Trucking Company and other firms in the industry. He was known for his reliability, work ethic, and his camaraderie with colleagues throughout the years.

Those who knew Alfred knew a man of many passions. A lifelong enthusiast of stock car racing, he spent countless weekends enjoying and participating in the thrills at Seekonk Speedway. Yet perhaps the most stirring part of his spirit found expression in music. A gifted vocalist, Alfred shared his love of opera with audiences through his performances with the Bel Canto Opera Company. His voice also graced the choir loft of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Church in Pawtucket, where his faith and artistry merged in praise.

Alfred's warmth and quiet kindness touched the lives of his family, friends, and neighbors. He is survived by his devoted sisters, Elaine M. Palumbo and Beverly A. DelGuidice. He also leaves behind a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by his two brothers-in-law, Anthony “Tony” Palumbo and Robert “Bob” DelGuidice, and his stepmother, Myrtle DeMaio.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Prata-Gallogly Funeral Home, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a service in celebration of Alfred’s life at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor Alfred’s memory to do so by supporting local veterans’ organizations or community arts programs.
