FARO, A. Joseph, Age 92, of Boston, MA peacefully passed away on March 1, 2024.
He was born in Winthrop, MA on May 26, 1931. He was the son of the late Concetta
(Friscia) Faro and the late Joseph J. Faro, and was the beloved brother of the late Winnie
Buonaiuto. Mr. Faro is survived by his nieces and nephews, Patricia, Michael, Paul,
and JoAnn Buonaiuto, and Linda Flanagan, and many grand and great nieces and
nephews, and by his longtime companion Maryann Aakjar. He received a BA degree
from Bentley College in 1952. He served in the US Army from 1952-54, stationed in
Greenland. Mr. Faro founded Yankee Lobster Company, a wholesale shellfish company
in 1954, which he operated for over fifty years. “Yankee Joe” supplied live shellfish to
local restaurants, and in the 1960’s experimented with cold packing and air shipping of
live lobsters, which allowed him to ship “Flying Yankee Lobsters” to restaurants
throughout the world. In retirement, he enjoyed spending the winter months in Puerto
Rico. Mr. Faro was a proud member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company
where he held the rank of Major. His funeral will be private, with interment at Saint
Joseph Cemetery in West Greenwich, RI. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory
may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
