LALIBERTE, Sister Mary Maris Stella, RSM, 88, a Sister of Mercy for nearly 70 years, died at Evergreen House Health Center in East Providence on February 7, 2018.
Sister was the daughter of the late Raymond and Alice (Lanois) Laliberte. Sister is survived by a brother, Raymond, of Falmouth, MA and a sister, Sister Marlene Laliberte, RSM of North Smithfield as well as a niece and several nephews.
Sister Maris Stella was a dedicated educator, excelling as a teacher of French Culture and language. Sister spoke fondly of her teaching ministry, especially in the language department at St. Mary Academy-Bay View. Upon her retirement from formal education, Sister continued her Mercy Ministry to the guests and residents at McAuley Ministries as Administrator for ten more years. Sister Maris Stella was a very unassuming religious woman with a tenderness for those who were less fortunate. In the true spirit of Mercy, Sister Maris ministered to those in need of housing and basic assistance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church in Cumberland. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:40 a.m. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
