Sister M. Edna Lynch, RSM

Lynch, Sister Mary Edna, 87, a Sister of Mercy, died on May 25, 2017 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre. 

Born in Providence, baptized Doris Lynch, she was a daughter of the late John and Edna (Colburn) Lynch.  She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1947 and pronounced her final vows on August 16, 1953. 

An outstanding educator, Sister first taught at St. Patrick School in Providence.  During the next several years, Sister taught in parish schools in Providence, Pawtucket, and West Warwick.  In 1973, Sister’s ministry began at St. Vincent Home in Fall River, Massachusetts where she spent many years both teaching and providing care for the children who lived there.

Sister then returned to ministry in Rhode Island where she continued her education and parish service ministries.  For the past several years, Sister Mary Edna had been a resident of Mount St. Rita.  Her love and care for people was a gift that she shared with visitors, caregivers, and residents.  Sister Mary Edna loved life, told great stories and knew just how to listen.

In addition to her Mercy family, Sister Mary Edna is survived by her brother, Fred Lynch, and her sisters, Ann Thompson and Edna Chace, and numerous members of her extended family.  She is the sister of the late John, Edward, and David Lynch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at St. John Vianney Parish, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, RI.  Visitation hour will be held prior to the Mass in the Church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:40 a.m.  Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sisters of Mercy, 15 Highland View Road, Cumberland, RI 02864 or Mount St. Rita Health Centre, 15 Sumner Brown Road, Cumberland, RI 02864 will be appreciated.  Information and condolences please visit www.galloglyfuneralhome.com
